The height of the pandemic was hard for a lot of us, but it was also a time when so many creatives around the world tapped into their inner selves. For Roi, being cooped up in the apartment with her partner in crime, Neptune the Cat, turned her love of podcasts into a podcast of her own: Let Me Tell You Somethin Bitch

“My name, Roi, is actually an acronym: Renouncing Our Isms. When I was in college, it occurred to me that a lot of our divisiveness, comes from internalizing isms and making them a part of our identities. I feel that renouncing isms is the first step toward freedom and, through these realizations, Roi was born. It’s more than a pseudonym to me,  it’s the foundation for my life and I do my best to recognize where in me isms are showing up and heal those places/unlearn those things”

One of the things I love most about podcasts is that there is literally something for everyone out there, just waiting to be discovered. The name of her podcast is what caught my attention – Let Me Tell You Somethin Bitch – and I just knew I was in for a treat. I scrolled through the list of her episodes until I saw In the 90s… y’all it was E V E R Y T H I N G !

It’s extremely brave to put intimate pieces of yourself out into the world, and one thing that makes LMTYSB so special is the authenticity in each and every one of her stories. While that honesty is important to Roi and her connection to her audience, she also understands the importance of protecting those around her.

“…talking about generational trauma, issues with my family, my childhood and although I’m ready to put myself out there, my family didn’t sign up for that”

That authenticity and transparency goes into every piece of her work, down to the titles of the episodes. During the first year, all of Roi’s episodes started with ‘I’ and told a story of who she was and who she wants to be. Now that people have a better understanding of who she is, future episodes will cover broader topics, including episodes directly correlative to her social media bio.

“My tag line for the podcast is,  “Artist🎭, Scammer🤫, Thinker🤔, Spy🕵🏿‍♀️,” so I’m writing a booklet entitled,  “Scammin’ 101: How to Scam” which will be available as an extra on my buymeacoffee. My hope is that folx get a kick out of it and I’ll be able to make it a series: “Thinking 101: How to Think,” “Art-ing 101: How to Art,” you get the picture.”

What I’m looking forward to the most is the revival of her musical aspirations and the rebirth of $poon Money.

“My rap persona is $poon Money and she’s got even less of a filter than me.” 🤣

In her episode, I Was In A Sketch Comedy Group, Roi shares a little bit about her history in entertainment and the nagging desire to pick up where she left off.

“I got stories out the ying-yang, now let me tell you somethin bitch!”
